2.2.1: A ring gear (or magnetic ring) is installed on a rotating shaft (such as the output shaft, drive shaft, or gear shaft inside the transmission).

2.2.2: Two sensors are fixed near it, and when the ring gear rotates, the teeth (or magnetic poles) generate an electrical signal through the sensing element of the sensor.

In a "passive" (variable reluctance) sensor, the rotation of the ring gear causes a change in magnetic flux, thereby inducing an alternating voltage in the coil.

In "active" (Hall effect or magneto electric) sensors, the sensor itself is powered and outputs a pulse or square wave signal proportional to the rotational speed.

2.2.3: The control unit (such as TCM/ECU) reads the frequency or voltage changes of this signal to calculate the speed of the rotating shaft, and then determine the vehicle speed or the speed of the transmission output shaft.
